The Tyanna Foundation Greenville, SC
Improving the lives of breast cancer patients is at the heart of the Tyanna Foundation, which honors a mother’s life, love, and living legacy. Tyanna Barre O’Brien lost her battle with breast cancer in 1990 at the tender age of 48. Her daughters, Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara & Kate decided to found the Tyanna Foundation in her honor, and the flagship event “BreastFest” became a yearly event. It began in Athens, GA, and then expanded to Baltimore, Dewey Beach, DE, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and now, Greenville, SC!
Since its inception, the Tyanna Foundation and its volunteers have worked tirelessly to increasing awareness and generating money for breast cancer services, education, treatment and patient care. The all-volunteer organization donates 90% of all funds raised to a local organization in each BreastFest city.
All proceeds from BreastFest Greenville will benefit cancer patients at the Greenville Health System’s Cancer Center. We are extremely proud to be able to work with this state-of-the-art health care facility, which, in conjunction with The Breast Health Center at GHS, brings together a team of surgeons, oncologists, and radiologists focused on providing comprehensive breast care, ranging from basic cancer risk assessment and breast cancer screening to the evaluation of common breast problems, including the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
BreastFest Greenville volunteers have been ramping up since 2011 by participating in numerous cancer awareness events, and we have sponsored a few of our own smaller events as well. The BreastFest “Sea Cups” have twice raced dragon boats in the Upstate Dragon Boat Festival, and we have put on our own events such as Brushstrokes for BreastFest at Sassy Paints in downtown Greenville, Jump for a Cure at Gravitopia in Mauldin, and Shop for a Cure as well as wine and beer tastings at The Community Tap. We already have raised $7,500 for breast cancer patients in this area, and we hope to crush that figure in 2015!
