The Tyanna Foundation honors a mother’s life, love, and living legacy. Tyanna Barre O’Brien lost her battle with breast cancer in 1990 at the tender age of 48. Her legacy continues today through the work of her daughters Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara & Kate O’Brien, the founders of BreastFest. It is our commitment to awareness and prevention that inspires and leads the work of the Tyanna Foundation.
Since it’s inception in 1999 in Athens, GA., the Tyanna Foundation has worked tirelessly increasing awareness and generating money for breast cancer research, services, education, treatment and patient care for local breast cancer patients and survivors. We are expanding our reach, and have raised over $1,000,000 to help local organizations in Southern New Jersey, Baltimore, Maryland, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to treat and care for breast cancer patients.
All of the funds raised in each city benefit a local breast center or breast health organization.

BreastFest New Jersey
Saturday, June 8, 2013
TapRoom and Grill
Haddon Township, NJ
3:00 - 9:00pm
We are happy to announce that in 2012, the Tyanna Foundation/BreastFest New Jersey, made a transformational pledge of $200,000 to the Virtua Foundation in support of Virtua’s Breast Care Comfort Fund, which provides wigs, scarves, transportation and medication for women who are unable to otherwise afford them. This support often means more than added comfort – it increases the likelihood of survival, ensuring patients get the care and treatment they need after they leave Virtua.
To recognize the commitment from The Tyanna Foundation, Virtua Foundation will dedicate the Women’s Surgical Unit at Virtua Voorhees and name the fund in memory of Tyanna Barre O’Brien in 2013
Last year, BreastFest New Jersey attracted more than 500 attendees and raised nearly $20,000. The event is a day of fun for the entire family featuring food, drink and live entertainment. For kids, we have the “BreastFest KidsFest” (3:00-5:00pm) providing music, arts, crafts, games and sports for kids. For adults, “The Best of BreastFest Tastings” (6:00-9:00pm) featuring fine tastings of food from local restaurants and eateries.
Please visit Virtua's website at http://foundation.virtua.org to read the latest news on what BreastFest and Virtua are working on together. There is a wonderful story about one of our longtime Volunteer, Friend and Survivor, Kristina Shaughnessy, as well as a great article about BreastFest.
